Vavilov

Please scroll down for deck plan.

The Akademik Sergey Vavilov and her sister ship the Akademik Ioffe are widely recognized as the best expedition-style cruise vessel operating in Polar waters. As the ships were built to perform delicate and sensitive hydro-acoustic work, they are also designed to run very quietly.

The Vavilov and the Ioffe
are well-equipped, ice strengthened vessels capable of carrying up to 118 passengers, although we normally carry no more than 110 for extra comfort. The relatively new Scandinavian-built exploration vessels were extensively re-fitted during 2003 and they now feature all the modern facilities and comforts to be expected in a polar exploration vessel. There is a panoramic bar/lounge, library, video room, and dining space for the full passenger complement in one seating. There is also a gymnasium, sauna and swimming pool.

We encourage you to join our staff on the bridge; there’s always something to learn from the Captain or the officers on watch and it’s the favorite place on the ship for sight seeing and bird watching.  There are also extensive outside viewing areas on several decks as well as the bow and stern of the ships.
