The lodge at Chaa Creek Adventure Centre, Rainforest Reserve and Spa, has pioneered natural history travel to Belize since 1981. A private 330-acre nature reserve set along the banks of the Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, the lodge provides a unique rainforest experience while maintaining an unspoiled ambiance. Chaa Creek has received substantial recognition including the 1998 Green Hotel of the Year awarded by American Express and the Caribbean Hotel Association as well as the 2002 World's Best award by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. The lodge is comprised of 19 comfortable palm-thatched cottage rooms and two luxury suites nestled along the riverside in a setting of unmatched beauty and tranquility. In 2009 Chaa Creek added a spectacular new eco-friendly swimming pool. The pool was designed with both children and adults in mind. It's bi level configuration allows for swimming and paddling pools, as well as generous lounging space for dining, sunbathing, and relaxation. Wildlife abounds, and some 250 species of birds have been sighted within the reserve. Cottages are set in lush tropical gardens along the banks of the Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains of Western Belize. The cottage compound, within the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve, provides a perfect compromise between comfort and a true wilderness experience. Each palm-thatched cottage has Mexican tiled floors, large mahogany beds, original artwork and private bathrooms with hot showers. Spacious sundeck verandas allow guests to view wildlife and interact with nature. Delicious cuisine features a mixture of Caribbean, Mexican and Belizean dishes served under a large, open air, thatch roofed restaurant with its own temperature controlled wine cellar. The dining room, bar and cottages are all constructed from local hardwoods and thatched with bay leaf palm.
