La Selva eco-lodge or “the Jungle” in Spanish is located 60 miles from Coca down the
Napo
River in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon basin. The lodge has been in operation for 25 years and is a highly respected jungle lodge in South America. Thatch roofed cabanas, each with private bathrooms and hot water, are located one mile from the river, on a hillside, overlooking a lake. A 2012 remodel was highlighted by 12 brand-new state of the art eco-suites and a remodel of the family and traditional suites, bringing the lodge's capacity to a total of 50 guests. In addition, a new restaurant and bar area provides incredible views of Garzacocha Lake. The lodge offers 24-hour electricity and water, powered by solar energy.
Arrival at La Selva
A special experience from the start! A motorized canoe takes your group down the Napo River (approximately 2.5 hours). A short hike follows this trip to finally board a paddle canoe to cross Garzcocha Lagoon before arriving at the lodge. Upon arrival to La Selva's main dock, the staff will help you carry your luggage (carry-on baggage as well as camera gear will be the guest’s responsibility). You will be greeted with a complimentary cocktail as well as introduced to your bilingual naturalist guide.
Dining at La Selva
La Selva's new restaurant provides gourmet organic food using local ingredients from its on-site garden. The restaurant's French chef, Aime, is passionate about helping the local community, and has started a program, working alongside the locals to grow food native to the area. Aime specializes in vegetarian and raw food, and can accommodate special diets upon request. The spacious dining room has a cone-shaped roof and open-air combined bar and lounge with a wrap-around view of the lake.
One of your experiences at La Selva is a signature “welcome” drink upon arrival. Throughout your stay friendly bartenders will serve your favorite cocktail or introduce you to some of La Selva's special tropical drinks while you enjoy the wonderful lake view from the bar.
Spa at La Selva
Imagine getting a massage or spa treatment surrounded by Amazonian butterflies! La Selva's elite Butterfly Spa is the first of its kind in Ecuador and in all of South America.
Activities at La Selva
A variety of self-guided and naturalist-guided hikes reveal the biodiversity of the region. In addition, La Selva offers a butterfly garden and a rainforest canopy observation tower providing and eye-level view of rain forest birds and wildlife. In addition to the lodge La Selva features a jungle camping immersion. Depart from the lodge with your guide to spend the night surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wilderness. All equipment is provided. Flights to La Selva are available every day except Sunday.
The 135-foot observation tower that sits atop a giant kapok tree is currently under reconstruction, expected to be ready December 2012.
