Trekking is distinguished from hiking in that the trek is the primary means of transportation. On foot, traveling slowly, provides unparalleled access and allows you to get to know a region intimately. You will explore some of the most remote and scenic corners of the world while exchanging civilization for solitude and connections with local nature and culture. Our trekking adventures involve traveling in remote areas often at high altitudes. Pack animals and/or porters support our treks so all you carry is a day pack. Accommodations consist of backcountry huts with simple, yet comfortable, dormitory style beds or camping. We provide most gear necessary for a trekking trip (tents, bedding etc.) while toilet and dining areas make camps surprisingly comfortable. Detailed packing lists will be sent once you have signed up for your adventure.
A trekking day typically starts early with the rustling of guides preparing a hearty breakfast. Pack your bags, sit down to breakfast then hit the trail. Expect a full day of walking through mountain ranges, forests, valleys, archeological sites and/or remote villages. The pace is moderate with plenty of time to stop for views, photos or to exchange a greeting with friendly people sharing the trail. A picnic lunch prepared by the staff provides time to rest and refuel with a generous meal. Arrive at the next hut or camp in the afternoon with time to relax and refresh before dinner. Evenings are free to watch sunsets, write in your journal, stargaze or engage in conversation with fellow trekkers.
While previous trekking experience is not necessary, we expect participants to be strong, experienced hikers in excellent physical condition. Trekking is for people who enjoy long hikes several days in a row. Expect to encounter steep hills, uneven footing and possibly high altitudes above 10,000 feet, making the hiking strenuous. Some treks may be subject to unpredictable weather conditions.
