A land of superlatives, Alaska contains the continent's highest peak, largest ice field, longest river, longest coastline and most prolific wildlife. An AdventureSmith Exploration to Alaska is an active journey into North America's vast frontier where adventurous activities access magnificent wilderness with a focus on the region's diverse nature, history and culture. Our selection of adventures ranges across the state from Glacier Bay National Park and Alaska's Southeast panhandle to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on the remote North Slope. In between we offer our unique style of naturally active travel in Prince William Sound, Katmai National Park, Denali National Park and much more. The region's diversity and abundant wildlife rewards intrepid travelers who explore off the beaten track.

An AdventureSmith Exploration to Alaska is an active journey into North America's vast frontier where adventurous activities access magnificent wilderness with a focus on the region's diverse nature, history and culture.

In an age of industrial tourism, the Alaska travel experience has become increasingly homogenized. With more companies offering discount cruises and package tours the true Alaska has become elusive. We provide an Alaska travel experience that offers solitude, wilderness, adventure and abundant wildlife, the qualities that have made Alaska famous. We utilize fun and exciting activities such as hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting and small ship cruising to reach hidden coves, unknown trails, remote rivers and true wilderness. Scenic flights save valuable travel time while highlighting Alaska's grandeur from above. Enjoy an extended stay in Denali National Park's remote wilderness rather than a day tour at the parks entrance. Utilize remote waterways, whether by raft, kayak or small ship, to access pristine wilderness and observe wildlife in its natural habitat. Expert naturalist guides ensure you get the most out of your Alaska experience, safely and comfortably, even in remote wilderness locations. Our groups are small, creating an intimate and interactive adventure travel experience. If you seek an in-depth adventure travel experience, away from tourist crowds into the heart of Alaska, then we have the right trip for you.

The word that best describes Alaska's weather is unpredictable. Most travelers make the most of Alaska's summer months, May through September, enjoying warmer temperatures, long days and accessible wildlife. Throughout the summer weather is variable ranging from warm sunny days in the 70s or 80s to chilly rainy days in the 50s and 60s.

Temperate rainforest areas along the coast enjoy a cool maritime climate while interior temperatures can vary from warm and sunny to cool and wet. Always expect and be prepared for cold rainy weather, but bask in the sun wearing shorts and t-shirts when the sky clears as it usually does on each trip. Due to its northern latitude, Alaska offers endless summer days providing plenty of sunlight for activities and explorations.
