Verdant rainforests, sacred Maya temples, Caribbean beaches and spectacular reefs have earned Belize a reputation as one of Central America's premier adventure travel destinations. This small, peaceful country located just south of Mexico on the Caribbean Sea has long been recognized for the world-class snorkeling, diving and fishing opportunities on its barrier reef. Intrepid travelers exploring beyond Caribbean beaches, reef and cayes (pronounced "keys") are rewarded with pristine tropical rainforests, protected in an extensive system of parks and reserves, which are home to abundant wildlife such as crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, tapirs, toucans and parrots.

Kayak among pristine tropical islands gently shaded with palms and separated by the azure waters of the world's second longest barrier reef. Explore rich rainforests and amble among sacred Maya temples in the company of local Creole and Maya naturalist guides.

Belize was once a stronghold of the Maya and today travelers experience their legacy amid ancient kingdoms featuring temples, plazas and ball courts that allude to their former grandeur. Belize, a former British colony, is a rich melting pot of diverse cultures where English is widely spoken, followed by Creole, Spanish, Garifuna and Mayan dialects.

AdventureSmith Explorations offers a wide array of small group departures, family trips, active adventures, expedition cruises and individual custom itineraries highlighting the wonderful diversity of Belize. We specialize in utilizing adventurous activities to access the premier natural and cultural highlights of Belize. Kayak among pristine tropical islands gently shaded with palms and separated by the azure waters of the world's second longest barrier reef. Explore rich rainforests and amble among sacred Maya temples in the company of local Creole and Maya naturalist guides. Float through beautiful jungle river valleys or even underground, through spectacular limestone caves.

We offer itineraries for all ages and abilities, each with a flexible level of activity ranging from easy to ambitious. Activities may include naturalist-led hikes, viewing wildlife and birds, archeological exploration among Maya ruins, sea kayaking, mountain biking, cave exploration horseback riding, fishing, scuba diving or snorkeling. Each activity is designed to reveal a unique region, highlighting Belize's rainforests, ruins and reef. Our adventures vary in length and activity level, generally exploring the inland rainforests, then concluding on the Caribbean Coast for beach activities, reef exploration and relaxation. Guests who love the beach and sea (especially SCUBA divers) often choose to extend their Belize vacation at a beachfront cabana.

Travel Map of Belize

The climate in Belize is subtropical with brisk prevailing wind from the Caribbean Sea and an annual mean temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer high temperatures usually never exceed 96 degrees Fahrenheit while winter lows are seldom below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night.

The most popular time to travel in Belize is late December through April when rainfall is diminished and the humidity is nicely tempered by Caribbean Sea breezes. During the "green" season, wetter weather prevails May through November, with the exception of August, which often offers a brief respite from the rain. September through November brings the chance of tropical storms and hurricanes. Saltwater temperature varies between 75 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately global weather changes are making historical predictions somewhat invalid.
