Day 1 - Embark Juneau, Alaska

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking views of Mount Juneau and its surrounding glaciers. Leaving the harbor, watch for the eagles that abound year-round, and a variety of birds, seals, hardy sea lions, porpoise. After meeting your crew and getting acquainted with your ship’s features, finish the evening with a delicious meal while keeping an eye out for wildlife as you set sail for the Tracy Arm Wilderness.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
dinner

Day 2 - Tracy Arm Wilderness & Frederick Sound

At the end of Tracy Arm, a winding fjord with sheer granite walls, hundreds of cascading waterfalls, and some of the largest floating icebergs in all of Alaska, sits the twin Sawyer Glaciers: North Sawyer and South Sawyer. The fjord is home to brown and black bears, deer, wolves, harbor seals, birds such as arctic terns and pigeon guillemots, and mountain goats, usually spotted high on the cliffs. Later today, move into Frederick Sound — summer feeding ground for the northern hemisphere’s largest concentration of humpback whales. Keep watch for humpbacks, orca and Steller sea lions.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 3 - Thomas Bay

Choose kayaking and a lush forest trek on a scenic rainforest trail, or go big on a roundtrip 11-mile hike to the glacially fed and rarely visited Patterson Lake for spectacular kayaking in the meltwaters of Patterson Glacier. Discover the origin of its “Devil’s Country” nickname during a reading from “The Strangest Story Ever Told,” about the area’s mythical, shape-shifting creatures called Kushtaka.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
breakfast, lunch and dinnner

Day 4 - Glacial Landscapes & Wrangell Narrows

Step into the backcountry of Alaska's wilderness, in an area known for glaciers and rich in gold and quartz. Explore glacial landscapes marked by moraines, muskegs and mud. Adventure and natural beauty are sure to please whether you choose kayaking, paddleboarding, skiff riding or hiking today. An abundance of bright red and green navigation lights guide you along “Christmas Tree Lane” as you cruise the winding Wrangell Narrows this evening.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 5 - Wrangell, Alaska

Home to native culture, wildlife and wonder, Wrangell is one of the oldest towns in Alaska and the only one ever governed by four nations. Before venturing into town, local islanders join you on board for an in-depth presentation on Tlingit and Haida cultures. View recently carved totem poles at Kiksetti Totem Park and step inside the famed and historically significant Chief Shakes Tribal House.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 6 - Behm Canal

Wildlife abounds in Behm Canal and the surrounding Tongass National Forest. Here look for orca, porpoise, seals, sea lions, brown and black bears, mink, marten, eagles and otters. Paddle along the canal or venture out on an intertidal shore walk or low-elevation trek on the Cleveland Peninsula.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 7 - Misty Fjords National Monument

Affectionately called “The Yosemite of the North,” Misty Fjords National Monument represents nearly every ecosystem found in Southeast Alaska. Glacial valleys filled with sea water and sheer 3,000 foot cliffs are a haven for sea birds, brown and black bears, mountain goats, Sitka black-tailed deer, mink, moose, river otters and other wildlife. Glide through Walker Cove or Rudyerd Bay by kayak or explore by skiff soaking in the splendor of this largely forgotten corner of the world. This evening, join the Captain in a farewell toast and reminisce about your Alaskan journey over a sumptuous dinner.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
ship of choice
MEALS:
breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 8 - Disembark Ketchikan, Alaska

Known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” Ketchikan is located on the edge of the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy a farewell breakfast before disembarking the ship and transferring directly to the Ketchikan airport or beginning your extended stay.
ACCOMMODATIONS:

MEALS:

Trip Reviews

OVERALL: 5 stars ACCOMMODATIONS: 4 stars MEALS: 4 stars

Overall Trip Review

The trip was exceptional! It was the best trip we have ever taken. On a scale of 1 to 10, this trip was an 11!  The best experience was Whale watching. The ability of the captain to maneuver the small ship to change itinerary due to changing weather and sea conditions. The beach walk was phenomenal. Misty Fjords was awesome, the colors and reflections from the water were awesome. The informative guides. Outstanding, helpful, enthusiastic crew members from the cabin and dining room stewards to nature guides, program guide, and chef to accommodate everyone's needs. I loved the sea kayaking. Mostly I loved the kayaking when a humpback was about 50' from us during the "open paddle." That will get your heart rate up. There wasn't a place or experience we did not enjoy. Be prepared for lots of smiles, this was a trip of a lifetime.

Accommodations Review

We knew the cabins would be small and that was perfectly adequate for us. We were totally comfortable in the cabin. However, new carpet is needed on the stairs, as it was frayed in several areas. Pillows (I felt as did other passengers) need to be replaced. Bed linens in our cabin did not match.

Meals Review

Overall meals were really good and plenty of it. The chef made every effort to have a variety of meals, especially for all the kids onboard as well as those who needed gluten free, etc. The improvement, in my opinion, would be using wild caught seafood 100%. The use of the farm raised seafood was tasteless & mushy. Also would suggest perhaps a greater variety/imagination on the breakfast menu (hot foods-i.e. the eggs, bacon/sausage/potatoes was a bit boring daily).

Guide Review

Annie was our principal trip leader. She was outstanding. She made sure everyone's needs were met. Annie had all kinds of programs planned for the kids which they totally enjoyed. We enjoyed the nature guides, Mark and Annie, as they were very informative. We usually were with them as they were leading the less intensive group. The other leaders did an excellent job as well, we just did not have as much interaction with them. And oh! the Captain. Captain Mike Bennett was personal, engaging, and such a pleasure to get to know.

AdventureSmith Review

Having a background in the travel industry, I would say that AdventureSmith did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend your company to others and plan to book with you again. Andrew Browning was very professional to deal. Andrew was definitely very tuned in to my family's needs and objectives.

E. Ruben - Casper, WY
OVERALL: 4 stars ACCOMMODATIONS: 4 stars MEALS: 4 stars

Overall Trip Review

The scenery was spectacular and the weather was better than anyone expected. Baird Glacier was great. All the areas that the ship took were amazing

Meals Review

The ship ran out of wholemeal bread at one stage which I did not think was good. Overall the meals were good and there was enough for everyone.

Crew & Guides Review

I think that Innerseas Discovery having taken over from Cruise West only a short time ago are doing a good job and catering for all need. I think the snorkelling area (I did not go but heard comments) could have been undertaken in a different area where the visiblity was better if this was permissible

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Andrew was very informative and helpful
