Trip Reviews

OVERALL: 5 stars ACCOMMODATIONS: 5 stars MEALS: 5 stars

Overall Trip Review

Although we missed the boat departure due to a canceled flight, we arrived one day late. From the moment we arrived on the Eclipse, the rest of the trip was perfect. We really enjoyed the marine iguanas on Fernandina, the tortoises and land iguanas at Urbina Bay, the beauty (and sea lions) of Santiago, snorkeling (with sharks) and kayaking at Tagus Cove, snorkeling around and the view from Bartolome. We loved all the dolphins in the Bolivar Channel. We liked it all!!  Genovesa was disappointing considering the long journey to get there. Bird sightings were good, but snorkeling was just OK. This was our least favorite stop. Punta Viecnte Roca was dramatic and beautiful but again the snorkeling was just OK- in both cases the visibility was not great and we did not see much other than sea lions and turtles. Snorkeling at the other sights was better.

Accommodation Review

Rooms 25 & 27 on the Eclipse were very roomy and well appointed. There was plenty of closet space and storage space in the bathroom. The rooms were cleaned several times a day. We loved our rooms!!

Meals Review

There was a great variety of food including vegetables and fruit at every meal. The presentation was always good and variety meant that there was always something for everyone! here was a great variety of guests on board in all age ranges and from many different countries. It was a well educated, well traveled group of guests who were all there to learn about and enjoy the Galapagos Islands. We enjoyed spending time with various guests at meals and on excursions.

Crew & Gudies Review

Ricardo, the cruise director, ran a meticulous operation. All meals, excursions, presentations, etc always started on time. Javier, the senior naturalist, was excellent- great descriptions and he was very knowledgeable. Sandie and Wilson, the other naturalists, were a little less experienced, yet very enthusiastic and professional, always pleasing the guests. The variety of excursions was excellent, and the ratio of naturalists to guests was why we selected this boat.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Chris Harter's description of what to expect on the boat was spot on. I planned the trip 11 months in advance and spent many hours on the phone and emailing Chris with detailed questions. He always responded quickly and was very professional throughout the entire planning process. Everything was very well planned but we had an unexpected canceled flight from Miami to Guayaquil which caused us to miss our flight to Baltra to meet the boat. AdventureSmith and their partners re-booked our hotels, flights and hired a speed boat (our cost) so that we were able to meet up with the boat one day late. I just want to reiterate how pleased we were with the quality of the boat and the professionalism of every member of the crew, from the captain down to the dishwashers and panga drivers. The service was perfect in every aspect. AdventureSmith and their partners were instrumental in making what was a disastrous situation turn into a perfect holiday (albeit one day shorter than we would have liked!!) I cannot thank them enough for their quick response in dealing with our dire situation.
