8 days Evolution Galapagos Cruises
For most travelers, the Galapagos is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and a Galapagos cruise aboard the Evolution offers one of the finest cruise experiences available. At nearly 200 feet and only 32 guests the Evolution is a spacious and luxurious yacht with a high crew to passenger ratio. She has all the modern amenities and loving attention to detail in its design, yet retains the adventuro us atmosphere and charm of a Roaring Twenties small boat. Trip Reviews

OVERALL: 5 stars ACCOMMODATIONS: 4 stars MEALS: 4 stars

Overall Trip Review

Fantastic trip, very well organized. Galapagos islands were incredible - beautiful and awe-inspiring.

Accommodations Review

Overall, the accommodations were very good. The one suggestion for improvement would be to consider the travel time to a given hotel vs. time spent in that location. Specifically, we arrived in Quito late in the evening, then had a 1hr drive to the hotel, before getting up and leaving at 6am the next morning. Realistically, it would have been better to simply have a reasonable hotel close to the airport and a few hours more sleep than a long transport to a nicer, culturally-significant hotel in which we spent less than 8 hours. The same was true in Lima. I appreciate the desire to choose nice and locally-relevant accommodations, but had I realized the transit time in relation to the time actually spent in the city, I would have opted for a less-appealing hotel in closer proximity to the airport. When we had more time in the city (eg, Cusco), then the hotel selection was perfect.

Meals Review

Struggled with not being able to eat many vegetables; would have been useful to know in advance if any restaurants were known to serve "safe" food with low risk of traveler's diarrhea or other food borne illness.

Crew & Guides Review

Metropolitan Touring Group was excellent - I would recommend to anyone traveling in South America. They did a fabulous job in all aspects. The M/V Evolution was also top-notch and I would recommend without hesitation. The size of the vessel was perfect.

B. Scansen - City, State

Overall Trip Review

The Galapagos itself is an amazing destination. However, the hotel change, evolution cabin change post deposit and itinerary change post final payment was disappointing.

We enjoyed snorkeling the best. We love being in the water & there was always so much to see (favorite‐Floreana, Champion Island). Our favorite land destinations included: Mosquera Beach (Sea Lions), Floreana's Punta Cormorant Sting Ray Beach (watched baby sea turtles hatch), Tower/Genovesa (numerous boobies and frigate birds). North Seymour Island and Santa Fe Island we enjoyed the least. The animal life was very minimal ‐‐ especially when compared with the experiences of all the other islands. When there is not much to see one tends to focus on things like the heat, the bugs and the rocky trail. Both land excursions on North Seymour and Santa Fe were abundant in all three. Both stops did nothing to add to this trip/itinerary.

Accommodations Review

The Evolution would receive a excellent rating. It was very clean, comfortable and quiet.

However the hotel Mercure was a different experience. It was clean but on our arrival to Quito we were given rooms that faced the busy street (Amazonas???) and traffic, including a "party bus" (on Friday night) drove by every 10‐15 minutes all night until around 3am. I would highly recommend making sure future guest are giving inside rooms.

Meals Review

The kitchen staff and chef were wonderful. The did try hard to accomodate a vegetarian although I could tell sometimes they struggled a bit. More grains/whole wheat items would be appreciated (my parents and I voiced this on our Evolution review as well). Although granola/muesli were on the menu everyday they were only available the first and final breakfast on the boat. So, I would recommend providing those items as well.

Crew & Guides Review

Maria Delia Cardenas with Metropolitan Touring was fantastic. I would highly recommend her to anyone heading to Quito. Bolivar Sanchez and Alex were both excellent as well. They have very different personality types. Bolivar not only loves what he is doing but clearly loves working with groups and interacting with groups. Alex seems to be a bit more of an introvert. He clearly loves what he is doing but sometimes seems a bit overwhelmed by having to control a group of excited tourist.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Chris was always very happy to answer any questions I had regarding the evolution. It was nice knowing he had been on the evolution himself. I realize that not all the booking issues were his fault and somethings were out of his control. It is just hard to handle so
many trip changes (hotel, cabins on evolution, trip itinerary) especially when
this was our "once in a lifetime trip".

Traveler Advice

Bring a underwater camera (not disposable one).

Chastagnol - San Carlos, CA
OVERALL: 5 stars ACCOMMODATIONS: 5 stars MEALS: 4 stars

Overall Trip Review

The daily snorkeling was definitely a highlight of the trip. Surprisingly, there was a diverse age range on our trip, which was great.

Meals Review

The portions served (family style) were small, and often times the kitchen would run out of food so second servings were not available. The food itself though was well prepared.

Crew & Guides Review

Whitman Cox and Jessica Salas were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Both also took the time to get to know everyone on a more personal level. The two both completed the experience.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Andrew Browning was veryhelpful in accommodating our requests. Mid-trip Andrew was also able to make a hotel change request, which was greatly appreciated. He provided a very high level of service. Having travel arranged from our hotels/airports was very convenient. Guides were always on time and were very friendly.
