Itinerary Notes

We may occasionally alter itineraries slightly for safety, or to take advantage of weather, wildlife and unplanned discoveries. Our ability to be spontaneous makes this style of Alaska small ship cruising unique. Please note that because of Glacier Bay National Park permits, some departures will cruise into Glacier Bay aboard Glacier Bay Day Tour boat the Baranof Wind. The 149-passenger high-speed catamaran operates a seven-hour glacier cruise that begins and ends in Bartlett Cove. Please contact AdventureSmith's Alaska cruise experts for more information.

Arrival & Departure

We highly recommend arriving Sitka one day prior to embarkation in case of any flight delay, cancellation or lost luggage issues. This cruise includes a morning tour of the Russian Bishop house at 9:00am. If arriving on day of departure plan flights to arrive no later than 8:00am to include the tour or no later than 12:30pm to embark the ship at 1:00pm. Plan outbound flights any time after 9:30am.

Trip Reviews

OVERALL: 5 stars ACCOMMODATIONS: 5 stars MEALS: 5 stars

Overall Trip Review

We found every place interesting. The kayaking, RTVs, and Zego water vehicles were an exciting bonus. Our teenage grandchildren loved them and we all appreciated how effortlessly they were included in riding and operating them. The only reservation we had was the early rising times. A little later would have made it feel more like a vacation.

Everything else was up to or beyond our expectations: the staff were consistently pleasant, accommodating, and helpful. The baker invited my granddaughter to bake cookies; the captain let her steer the boat; Emily, our tour leader, went out to purchase cold supplies when our grandchildren developed coughs and sneezes; our waitress, Ginny, cheerfully served us in staggered stages when our grandchildren came to meals late; and Amy did our rooms out of her regular schedule when the grandchildren were in bed when she arrived. Emily even ran a movie for my 14 yr old granddaughter and the 17 yr old passenger she made friends with. The supplies were generous and first-rate - ample Celestron binoculars, high-quality boots, rain coats, pants, and gloves. More than we expected.

Meals Review

The food was excellent - with abundant choices that were fresh and tasty without being excessive.

Guides & Crew Review

As I said above, all the staff were excellent, including Dan the manager and Ka-Houk who was unfailingly though not cloyingly cheerful. Not to mention the bartender and the engineer, all of whom did whatever they could do make our trip pleasant - never limiting themselves to their defined duties.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

From the moment when we were met at the airport, everything went smoothly; nothing was a hassle or even a minor irritant.

A. Powell - Pittsburgh, PA

Overall Trip Review

Fantastic trip - exceeded all expectations. I liked the walks, hikes, kayaking - a great mix of on- and off-boat experiences. The cultural experiences (Petersburg and Kake) were great. Seeing the glaciers and wildlife, the best!

The more flexible schedules and more access to desirable ports is what led us to this trip. We loved the small ship experience.

Accommodations Review

Comfortable cabin, nice forward lounge and dining room. Loved the in-room intercom.

Meals Review

Food was great - all the seafood! The chef was fantastic and so was Sunshine on desserts. We liked sitting at different tables with different people at each meal.

Crew & Guides Review

Lee & Jon were so enthusiastic and both know their stuff. We loved Faith Grant. Cory was fun too.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

No problems!

Traveler Advice

Bring warm hats and gloves. Some people got chilly on the way to the glacier.

Overall Trip Review

This was one of my most memorable travel experience because of what I saw, what I learned, the people I met and the staff who were involved. The accommodations on the ship were excellent, the food was outstanding and the staff unbelievable not just for their knowledge but also their professional demeanor and friendliness. I cannot decide which experience was the most memorable. The experience meeting with native Tlingits either on board or at the port stops was so interesting. The visit to the totem carver on Kake was superb. The experience at Glacier Bay was superb, the view of the glacier was awesome. The trip in Glacier Bay was breathless. I enjoyed the tours in Sitka and learned much about the history of this town through the visits to various key places. There is not place I did not enjoy but think Glacier Bay is simply a scenic delight. This was an awesome adventure trip, nothing I have experienced before and it was partially because the scenery 24-7 was unbelievable but also what I learned about Alaska natives, history and culture.

Accommodations Review

Accommodations aboard the Admiralty Dream were great and totally in keeping with what one expects on a small ship. It was not glamorous but well done. I believe totally appropriate for someone who is interested in the adventure.

Meals Review

The food was gourmet, no question about it. I was amazed at the quality of the meals, the diversity and the range of choices.

Crew & Guides Review

The staff for the cruise line were outstanding, very knowledgeable and accessible at all times. They are superb.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

I think we were advised correctly with regards to preparations for clothing and other items. Superb arrangements. I was very impressed with the transportation from my hotel to the ship both on embarking and disembarking. The arrangements for me to get to the airport the day of disembarkation were wonderful and not expected. Your company was superb with handling my reservations and providing information. Andrew Browning was always available to help and I found that to be extraordinary.

Traveler Advice

This is an adventure of a lifetime.
