Guatemala is distinct among Central American countries due to its incredible diversity of natural landscapes combined with ancient traditions that flourish among today's living Maya cultures. Throughout the Guatemala Highlands, travelers will find communities where the authentic, traditional life of indigenous people remains visible and accessible. Ancient kingdoms of monolithic structures and temples, now enveloped by jungle, connect modern Maya to ancestral civilizations. Our expert guides weave a colorful tapestry from prehistoric beginnings through Guatemala's turbulent past to today's optimism and the beginnings of a cultural renaissance.

Guatemala is distinct among Central American countries due to its incredible diversity of natural landscapes combined with ancient traditions that flourish among today's living Maya cultures.

In addition to cultural vitality and archeological wonders, Guatemala offers a stunning variety of natural environments. A verdant and mountainous landscape of tropical rainforests, highland cloud forests, white-water rivers, active volcanoes and scenic lakes are protected in a system of national parks and wildlife reserves. Colonial heritage can be found in many monasteries, restored churches and old haciendas, many of which have been converted into lovely boutique-style hotels. This is especially true in the colonial capitol of Latin America, Antigua, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. After years of civil war, Guatemala has emerged as a peaceful democracy, now defining itself as a blossoming region with an auspicious future while hosting over half a million visitors each year.

Our trips utilize adventurous activities such as hiking, rafting, kayaking and cave exploration to explore Guatemala's highlights with a focus on interpreting the nature, history and culture of this diverse nation. Hike among traditional villages where life has remained unchanged for hundreds of years and locals still wear colorful, traditional dress. Paddle the beautiful waters of Lake Atitlan or hike one of the dramatic volcanoes bordering the lakes rim. Raft exciting rivers in search of tropical wildlife and explore sacred underground caves. Our expert local guides create connections between ancient and modern Maya cultures, illuminating the historic roots of modern traditions, as you wander through indigenous markets and amble among Maya ruins. If you seek the ultimate combination of culture, nature and adventure, then Guatemala is for you.

Guatemala is known as the land of eternal spring for its wonderful climate and is suitable for travel year-round. Guatemala climate primarily varies according to elevation. The northern part of the country, known as the Peten region, is a lowland rainforest with a typical hot, tropical climate with some rain year-round, with maximum rainfall between May and September. The west and south of the country are very mountainous with some volcanic peaks rising to over 13,000 feet. Guatemala City and Antigua are located here where weather is typical for the highlands with a very pleasant climate. Rainfall here is moderate with a distinct dry season from November to April. Conditions on the Pacific Coast are similar in terms of the dry and wet seasons, but rainfall is heavier and there is little relief from the high temperatures at night.
