Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is an eco-luxury lodge in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, adjacent to the Tambopata National Park. The lodge is accessible via a 25-minute flight from Cusco, followed by a 45-minute riverboat cruise down the Madre de Dios River. This welcoming haven situated at the heart of a 42,000-acre private ecological reserve is pristine and remote, yet easily accessible. It was named one of National Geographic Traveler’s 25 Best Ecolodges in 2013 and received the 2018 Conde Nast Reader’s Choice Award for being one of the top resorts in South America.

Since 1975, the lodge has been instrumental in the scientific study of the Amazon rainforest. The rooms are simple and seamlessly fit into the natural surroundings. The wildlife is remarkable, from giant and colorful macaws, to toucans, parrots, tapirs, tamarin monkeys, owls, the gorgeous Southern Amazon red squirrels and a large variety of monkeys.

Guided river boat and dugout canoe excursions reveal wildlife including caimans and tropical birds, of which over 540 bird species have been inventoried on hotel grounds. A nearby local farm enables guests to harvest and taste fruits such as bananas and citrus. The Anaconda trail at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica allows visitors to cross the flooded Aguajales swamp on a wooden boardwalk to scout out tropical amphibians (Inkaterra has helped identify five new species to date). Traverse the canopy on a hanging walkway roughly 100 feet above the forest floor, for treetop access to colorful birds and some of the more than 1,266 species of flora found around Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Added-cost activities include a treasure hunt for kids, private dining, cooking classes, live music, kayak excursions and ENA Spa treatments including: body exfoliation, massage, reflexology and foot therapy.
