Featuring Special Guest Lecturer Aldona Jonaitis. Here, among the remotest islands of the South Pacific, you’ll have experiences reserved for true explorers. You’ll participate in a pig ceremony on Ambrym and be welcomed to Tanna Island with elaborate dancing. In Noumea, capital of New Caledonia, you’ll encounter the ambiance of a French colonial city. Our Zodiac boats will find you the best spots for snorkeling and wildlife viewing. In New Zealand you’ll learn more about legendary explorer, Captain Cook, as well as early convict settlements.

This cruise is one segment of the year long Voyage of the Great Explorers world cruise and is part of Chapter 5: James Cook — Idylls of the South Pacific. These five world cruise voyages feature remote islands with pristine beaches, fabulous snorkeling, and fascinating local cultures. Day 1 - Lautoka, Fiji
Morning at leisure. Prior to embarkation, enjoy a highlight tour of Lautoka en route to the ship.
Day 2 - Lautoka, Fiji
The isolated island of Rapa Nui (its Polynesian name) is at the southeastern-most point of the Pacific Polynesian triangle. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is most famous for its mysterious and massive 887 stone moai sculptures of volcanic stone from quarries, probably carved between the 10th and 16th centuries. Many still stand; most have toppled over the centuries. Morning at leisure. Prior to embarkation, enjoy a highlight tour of Easter Island en route to the ship. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Days 3 - Yasawa-i-Rara, Yasawas
On this enchanting island you’ll enjoy a warm Fijian greeting with a kava tasting. There will be opportunites for nature walks and snorkeling. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 5 - Ranon, Ambrym Island, Vanuatu
Twin volcanic peaks soar over this lush island, as our hosts perform the men’s Rom Dance, celebrating the yam harvest. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 6 - Port-Vila, Efate Island
Stroll the compact capital of Vanuatu, visit the historical museum, enjoy a countryside drive or snorkel over colorful corals. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 7 - Port Resolution, Tanna Island
A stunning day awaits — including a visit to Mt. Yasur, an active volcano that spews molten rock and thrills with pyrotechnic displays. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 8 - Baie du Santal, Lifou Island, New Caledonia
Meet a Kanak chief, tour a vanilla plantation, take a nature walk with a local conservationist or snorkel. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 9 - Kuto, Ile des Pins, New Caledonia
The Island of Pines is dense with conifers. Enjoy a pirogue sailing trip or a circle-island trip, before relaxing on the beach. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 10 - Nouméa
Visit Nouméa’s outstanding cultural center and botanical gardens. Consider a fine candle-lit meal in a local restaurant.

Day 11 - At Sea

Day 12 - Kingston, Norfolk Island, Australia
Visit the 18th-century ruins of this former penal colony and meet descendants of the Bounty mutineers who settled here.

Day 13 - Russell, Bay of Islands, New Zealand
Witness the Waitangi Treaty House, historic Kerikeri, or stroll through the quaint former whaling village of Russell. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 14 - Auckland

Single Travelers: Single and triple are available upon request where applicable. If you are traveling alone and wish to share accommodations, our Roommate Share Program guarantees double occupancy rates in Majestic, Premium and Classic category cabins.

Land Cost Includes: One night hotel accommodations is included. All taxes, port charges, fees and on board services. On board gratuities are neither required nor expected. Transportation and shore excursions as indicated on the itinerary and all meals aboard the ship or where indicated.

Not Included: Airfare from your home city or return; passport or visa fees; excess baggage charges; air departure taxes; items of a personal nature such as alcoholic beverages, and insurance of any kind. Fuel surcharges may apply.

Arrival/Departure: Embarkation and disembarkation locations depend on the chosen itinerary. Suggested times for inbound/outbound flights also depend on the itinerary and point of embarkation and disembarkation. Please contact us for further details.

Payment Policy: A deposit of 25% of cruise-tour fare for all Grant Titan and Owner's Suite cabins or 20% of cruise-tour fare for all other cabin categories per person is required to confirm a reservation. Final payment for all Voyages of the Great Explorers cruises my be received no later than 120 days prior to departure, or in full at time of reservation if less than 120 days advance payment period.

Accommodations Aboard: Your comfortable home-base throughout the Voyage of the Great Explorers is aboard the Spirit of Oceanus. This all-suite vessel accommodates 114 guests. Each suites feature view windows, ample closet space, large marble vanity and sink, a lounge area, bathrobes, spa bath amenities, in-room safe, a chilled refreshment center, and satellite telephone access. Several suites also feature sliding glass doors and private teak balconies. The Oceanus has a dining room, two lounges, sun deck, sports deck, hot tub, library and game room. There is elevator access to all passenger decks. Open dining features continental and regional cuisine.
