Ecuador Amazon Adventure

Explore the incredible diversity and wildlife of Ecuador's Amazon from one of our exceptional wilderness Amazon lodges. Canoe the headwaters of the Amazon River to a comfortable wilderness lodge surrounded by a region of megadiversity. Daily hikes and paddles, led by expert resident guides, explore the mysteries and connections of life in the Amazon rain forest. You will by thrilled by the chance to ascend a canopy platform or view hundreds of colorful birds at nearby parrot licks. This trip includes your jungle lodge accommodations, round trip air and water transportation from Quito and guided activities. Day 1 - Amazon River Journey

Fly from Quito to the town of Coca (officially known as Francisco de Orellana) on the Napo River. After a short drive from the airport to the dock, board a large, motorized, covered canoe for a scenic two-hour trip down the Napo River. Upon descending into the protected reserves of the Amazon basin, trade your motorized canoe for a smaller dugout canoe powered by local oarsmen. Motorized transport is not allowed so that wildlife isn't disturbed. This paddle can take anywhere from one to three hours depending on wildlife sightings and weather. Along the way watch for mighty Giant Otters, kingfishers, Hoatzins, jacamars, hawks, and monkeys. Upon arrival check into your Amazon jungle lodge, resting peacefully to the sounds of the rain forest.

Days 2-3 - Amazon Adventure

Spend the next two days exploring the incredible rainforest diversity of the Amazon. A variety of self guided and daily naturalist guided hikes reveal the biodiversity of the region. Waterways also provide a means of exploration among the worlds most biodiverse environment. Resident guides share their knowledge and insight, learned from years of living in the Amazon. Gaze in wonder behind protected blinds while hundred or even thousands of parrots, macaws and parakeets gather at important clay licks. In addition, each Amazon lodge features a rainforest canopy observation tower providing and eye level view of rain forest birds and wildlife. Travelers who are enthusiastic about birds and rain forest wildlife often add another night to their Amazon adventure.

Day 4 - Return to Quito

This morning journey by boat back up the Napo River to Coca for the return flight to Quito. Arrive Quito midday. This concludes your Ecuador Amazon Adventure.

Notes on Itinerary: We may occasionally alter itineraries slightly for safety, or to take advantage of weather, wildlife, and unplanned discoveries. Our ability to be spontaneous makes our style of travel unique.

Family Amazon Adventures: The Amazon rainforest is a wonderful place for family travel. Minimum age for the Ecuador Amazon Adventure is 5 years old. Children 5-12 years old receive a 30% discount when sharing with parents.

Cost Includes: Flights from Quito to Coca, river transportation to the Amazon lodge, accommodations, local guides, entrance fees and meals as specified in itinerary.

Not Included: Airfare to Ecuador, excess baggage charges, taxes and port fees, Quito airport international departure tax, gratuities to Naturalist Staff and crew, items of a personal nature such as alcoholic beverages, and insurance of any kind.

Arrival/Departure: The Ecuador Amazon Adventure begins and ends in Quito. Flights to the Amazon usually depart early and the Ecuador Amazon Adventure may require a pre trip hotel overnight in Quito. Expect to return from the Amazon late in the late afternoon on Day 4 or Day 5.

Accommodations: The Napo Wildlife Center, surrounded by a 53,000 acre rain forest biosphere reserve within Yasuni National park, offers the most luxurious accommodations available in Ecuador’s Amazon. At Napo Wildlife Center choose from standard Cabanas or Suites. The Sacha Lodge was carefully designed to offer comfort to the traveler yet preserve the environment and rainforest ambiance. La Selva or “the Jungle” in Spanish is located 60 miles from Coca down the Napo River in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon basin. A the La Selva Jungle Lodge choose from standard cabanas or suites.
