Overall Trip Review

The guides were very good in Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos. Carlos Cruz in Peru and Machu Picchu was especially terrific. He had quite a passion for his country. Machu Picchu was jaw-dropping. The Galapagos was obviously incredible and reminded me that kindness towards all could create an environment free to develop naturally. We enjoyed them all but I guess Lima I enjoyed the least, due to the size and congestion. Had a group of 16 on our sailing ship. Many were Brits, who are friendly and fun. Seemed just the right size. I felt sorry for the Nat. Geo. people on ships with more than 100 passengers. They spent all day trying to get everyone on and off an Island. Who doesn't want to go the the Galapagos or Machu Picchu? At 63 it's pretty much now or never--although I would like to return with my grandchildren when they reach the age of 7

Accommodation Review

Accommodations were all first class and the exploration of the Galapagos on the sailing ship Mary Anne was the highlight of the trip

Crew & Guides Review

Carlos Cruz in Peru was absolutely great and his driver Efraheim (sp?) was terrific. Percy was very helpful when a couple of our members were under the weather. Ramiro and Jorje in Equador were prompt and efficient and very helpful. Metropolitan Travel is very well organized. They were all professional but warm and friendly. Caroline Larrea, our guide in the Galapagos was certainly knowledgeable. We saw an incredible amount of animals on land, and she knew just where to take us to see a bounty of ocean life when we snorkeled. She was always professional, helpful and friendly. The crew of the Mary Anne were also wonderful to work with. We would happily repeat our trip.

AdventureSmith Review

AdventureSmith did a very good job. The only downfall came when we attempted to pay for Crew and Guide tips with a credit card. It is barely possible and delays their receiving their money by many weeks. Please advise future travelers to take cash only for crew and guide tips. As to using a Credit Card for bar bills, there is no problem

Traveler Advice

Plan to be busy and active -sleep is limited to maybe 7 hours a day. Eat lightly and drink moderately. Plan on getting a 12 hour headache when you reach Cuzco. Take something with you for headache pain because the pharmacies don't sell much besides ibuprofen. Also, two of our members became ill after eating lunch at the cafeteria on Machu Picchu. Maybe avoid the raw vegetables.
