Poseidon Expeditions is one of the leading providers of polar expeditions in the cruise industry. Founded in 1999, the company is a recognized leader in icebreaker cruises to the North Pole, the Arctic and Antarctica.
Poseidon Expeditions History
In 1999, Poseidon Arctic Voyages, doing business as Poseidon Expeditions, was founded in the UK with its main office in Limassol, Cyprus, specializing in icebreaker cruises to the North Pole, the Arctic and Antarctica. In 2001, the company operated its first full season, sailing North Pole icebreaker voyages aboard the 100-passenger, nuclear-powered Yamal. Later voyaged included Franz Josef Land, the Northeast Passage, the Russian High Arctic and Far East. In July of 2013, Poseidon marked the 100th attainment of the North Pole in the history of icebreaker navigation with its expedition cruise aboard the icebreaker 50 Years of Victory.
Building off of their extensive Arctic cruising experience, the company began Antarctic operations in the 2013-14 season, with a voyage aboard Sea Explorer, and introduced the small luxury expedition ship Sea Spirit to its Arctic and Antarctic operations in the 2015-16 season.
Poseidon Expeditions’ goal is to provide curious, discerning travelers with the perfect combination of comfort and personable service, balanced with maximum opportunities for outdoor activities in the spirit of adventure. Using a fleet of zodiac landing craft and operating different types of helicopters aboard icebreakers, passengers are guided ashore by an exceptional team of expedition guides and educators to observe up-close the spectacular wildlife and landscapes.
