Polar Regions Arctic Cruise

North Pole: Top of the World

The 13-day North Pole: Top of the World small ship expedition is full of ice, animals and history. Aboard the 128-guest, powerful and sophisticated Arktika-class icebreaker Fifty Years of Victory, sail to the frozen north on a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

Special to the North Pole: Top of the World voyage is the chance to literally circumambulate the globe during the International Round Dance at the very top of the world. Carefully navigate to precisely 90 degrees north and ceremoniously drop anchor to disembark on a sturdy stretch of frozen sea. A special barbecue meal and champagne toast on the ice marks your successful achievement of what only the most daring explorers have achieved before. Just imagine, you are now standing on top of the world.

En route explore the rarely visited Russian Arctic archipelago of Franz Josef Land, where interesting geological features, such as the mysterious stone spheres on Champ Island, columnar basalt cliffs of Rubini Rock and the northernmost point of land in the Eastern Hemisphere can be found. Walk in the footsteps of famous polar explorers at well-preserved historical sites; see their memorials, monuments, crosses and the remains of dwellings as testimony to incredible historical events. Possibly stop by Tikhaya Bukhta, a Russian Arctic National Park ranger station occupying Soviet-era research buildings, which was also a major base for polar expeditions.

Each day is filled with opportunities for whale watching, polar bear sighting, and walrus and seabird identification. If exploring the ice by Zodiac and from on deck is not exciting enough, hop aboard a helicopter and become more than just a spectator on this intrepid mission. Helicopter sightseeing is included in the cost of the North Pole: Top of the World expedition and is a rare opportunity to experience the breathtaking north from the air as well as sea. Additionally, expert photographers join to assist guests in capturing the endless expanse of ice, wildlife and beauty of the High Arctic.
