Sister Galapagos 20-guest yachts Eric, Letty and Flamingo have added special family programming to their 2014 cruises to include college departures and teen volunteering/cultural exchange opportunities. Add to this their existing designated family departures, and Eric Letty Flamingo have the best family Galapagos cruise programming in the archipelago. Here's what to expect with Eric Letty Flamingo's Galapagos family cruises in 2014:
Teen Cultural Exchange/Volunteer in the Galapagos
Five newly added family-teen departures in 2014 include a cultural exchange and volunteer project with local Galapagos students through Ecology Project International (EPI). The EPI programming is available on select Southern/Central Islands 2014 dates: March 23-30, April 6-13, June 15-22, June 29-06 July, July 13-20. The extra EPI programming takes place on Thursday, when the yacht is in Santa Cruz, and includes collecting research data at the tortoise breeding center or eradication of invasive species in the Highlands, followed by a tour of Puerto Ayora given by the EPI Ecology Club students. These special EPI departures are ideal for ages 13 and up traveling with their parents - a great way to include sustainability and cultural insight in your family travels!
Family-College Departures for Ages 18-25
Thanks to a growing trend of college-age travelers accompanying their families on the Eric Letty Flamingo yachts, a few departures have been designated as best for college-age travelers of 18 to 25 years old. Currently, those weeks are Dec 15-22, 2013; May 18-25, 2014; June 1-8, 2014; June 15-22, 2014, all on the Southern/Central Islands route. Additional departures may be added, so contact AdventureSmith for updates.
Other Eric Letty Flamingo Family Departures
Standard to Eric Letty Flamingo are designated family and family-teen departures scheduled during U.S. school breaks and geared toward children ages 7 and up. Most of the yachts' family departures have teenage children age 12 to 17 on board, and even college age 18 to early twenties. These departures are designated as to appeal to families who prefer to travel with other families and have age-appropriate activities - from instruction in snorkeling and sea kayaking for teens to briefings geared toward the younger set and kid-friendly meals - on board. Younger kids can visit the bridge and learn about astronomy, navigational charts and tie nautical knots with the Captain. Special parties include movies and popcorn, games with prizes, drawing contests, an ice cream sundae social and a King Neptune costume party and talent show.
Plus, as an added bonus, children age 11 years and younger at the time of sailing are entitled to a 25% discount off the cruise rate and a 50% discount off the airfare and park tax. Children ages 12-17 years are entitled to a 15% discount off the cruise rate only. These discounts may be limited.
